Coalition Assists Afghan National Police On Humanitarian Mission

A number of different villages in the Nanghar Province received humanitarian supplies from the Coalition and Afghanistan National police. Joint patrols in the region discovered a number of different villages in need, so there was an effort to pass out food, clothing, water and necessary supplies. One of the villages that received assistance was the Barinah Village in the Surkh Red District. There are a continuing amount of sporadic insurgent activity that has been a concern, but the Afghanistan National Police and soldiers from various coalition units provided security for the humanitarian food distribution.

The Afghan National Police will work with the leaders of the villages to continue to monitor how the villagers are doing, and be ready to help with more supplies as necessary. The ANP have a valuable bargaining tool that has begun to make a large difference in the region. You can almost call it a “food for weapons,” program.

The ANP help out with food distribution with the understanding that the villagers will help discover and turn over IEDs, explosives, and other weapons in the area. The idea was met with resistance at first, but then when conditions worsened, the citizens began to bring forth a number of munitions, IEDs and weapons of different kinds, both old and new.
