One of the surprise benefits for many Servicemembers is that their military service record qualifies them for college credit. Training has been standardized for purposes of college credit in many of the services, and as such it is possible to get college credit for time you have spent on active duty and in training. Many Servicemembers do not realize that they qualify for such a college level coursework credit so it comes as a pleasant surprise. Using online schools to qualify for a degree used to be a method that had a certain stigma, or it was a situation where college credit for online schools was not looked at in the same level of difficulty. This has largely changed, and the credits given for online classes are the same as those offered in person. It used to be easier to tell if a person had completed distance learning courses but anymore it is considered equally.
