For Miss Grant. Boot camp is 12 weeks plus 1 week for processing. No SOI after basic but he will have to attend MCT, Marine Combat Training which is less than 3 weeks.

How things have changed! I did my Arty School at 10th Marines. Got to B 1/10 in Feb ’84 and after 3 weeks went on a NATO float for 2 1/2 months, came back and some field ops. I didn’t do school until I was there for 6 months!

mike is right, back in the day, you did everything at boot camp, sent home for a week or two, then off to your designated school(mos). i was one of the lucky ones to go to fort sill ,ok,, and had a blast , so to speak.. then its off to who ever needs ya, i landed in le june , but was never really there for any period of time, cause they needed arty guys all over the world, at any givin time… SEMPER FI

A crusty USMC arty guy chiming in:

He will attend, 13 weeks of USMC boot camp at either Parris Island or MCRD San Diego (dependent entirely upon geography, same school at either place), followed by 10 days of accrued “boot leave” to go home and show off his spiffy new uniforms… then he will attend the MCT (Marine Combat Training) course at whichever school of infantry is appropriate (Pendelton for San Diego, Camp Gieger for Parris Island)… this course is somewhere around 20 days and is a stripped down, bare bones, “infantry-for-non-infantry” version of the actual school that true infantry go through: he will shoot a few guns, throw a grenade or two, and hike a bit… then off to Ft. Sill Army base in OK where he will spend about 7 weeks learning the Artillery MOS.

i leave augest 23rd as well. marine corps artillery. well go thru 13 weeks basic training at parris island. followed by school of infantry ( every single marine regardless of job goes to it) followed by artillery training. so yes he will go thru school of infantry

Hey I have a question on this…so I’m trying to work everything out for me and my fiance.So he leaves for basic Aug.23,2010.And he is going to the Marines.But the recruiter said most likely he’ll get to go into Artillery.SO if you go into artillery do you still have to do school of infantry?And for Artillery how long is the training?Thank you.
