Army Dependent Services Benefits

As you join the Army, if you have a family already it is helpful to know that there are a number of benefits that you can partake in. The Army has become much more family friendly over the last several decades, they full realize the importance of family to support the Servicemember, and have began to offer more programs to assist families that have either active duty or reserve Servicemembers. Some of the benefits and services are well known; others are not as well known but just as important for families to be made aware of.

The Army has several programs that assist and help military dependents and spouses that remain behind when the Servicemember is activated and heads off to mobilization to active duty. The Army Child and Youth Services programs have a number of different childcare type programs that are available to families, and the costs are very reasonable. The cost per child and per family is adjusted depending on the Servicemember pay grade and rank, and the services that are offered range from advanced in depth childcare to the more basic programs. Some of the advanced services have included in them different children’s sports and fitness type programs, which benefit the young people of Servicemember families in many ways.

Family Advocacy- The Army has programs that help families in need, from new parenting classes to assistance for families that have special needs members. There is also traditional crisis family services that help families in severe situations, and families in crisis, to help prevent further injuries, and to help prevent abusive situations.
Financial Support Services- The Army has a number of services to advise and support soldiers who are struggling financially, from classes on money management to consumer issues, and other financial and money issues.

Recreation and MWR Support- The Army is active in Morale, Welfare and Recreational support and has an extensive framework of classes, programs and services that assist Army families in leisure and relaxation type activities. The Army has services that directly benefit families such as family leisure support centers on the larger bases with personal fitness areas, to swimming pools, tennis facilities and other types of recreational activities. They also offer support in different recreational programs such as sponsored hiking, orienteering and other adventure type programming.
