IA Troops Prepared For Joint Patrols
The members of various Iraqi Army Units have been benefiting from training from the coalition as they work together on joint patrols operating from Kalsu FOB. Soldiers with 3rd Infantry, 2nd BCT have been training members of the 6th Iraqi National Army to take over patrol and security operations from coalition soldiers.
“We are pleased with the progress the IA have made in learning soldiering and basic infantry skills,†said Lieutenant Christopher Domenico. The joint patrols have been working right in the midst of the Iraqi urban environment.
The Iraqi Soldiers are learning quickly. They can field strip their AK-47 rifles, and they are progressing in basic room clearing procedures, among other practical skills they are learning from coalition soldiers.
Room clearing is a skill needed for house-to-house searches, and is one of the most valuable skills that the Iraqi soldiers at large can learn. When the 2nd BCT re deploys later this year the Iraqi soldiers have to be ready to take over basic security in the area.

The members of the 2nd BCT will continue to work and train the 6th Army Iraqi soldiers, and overall the progress being made is considerable. Part of the ongoing training is learning how to fully utilize the services of civilian militia groups and volunteers such as the Sons of Iraq. Because of the involvement of these groups, the security situation overall is greatly improved.
