Joint Efforts Result In Mission Complete In Eastern Baghdad Region
The coalition has begun to hand off the reins for security operations in earnest, still participating in security and patrols, but letting the newly trained Iraqi Army take point in most of the patrol missions. After spending the last several months instructing and teaching the Iraqi National Police and National Army different procedures and methods, the Coalition is pleased to be able to step back and let the Iraqi Security Forces take the lead.
The mission in Karadah District in East Baghdad is one such mission. The Iraqi Security forces worked hard going house to house to conducts a search-and-cordon mission, looking for illegal weapons, explosives, and any insurgents or terrorists that may be hiding. The mission was a success, and while there was not a large amount of munitions found, they did find some and also discovered several individuals known to be terrorist affiliated and took them back to base for questioning.
Weapons discovered include 150 AK 47 rifles along with a number of handguns, and several improvised explosive devices.
The National Iraqi Police also participated in the mission; working to patrol the streets while the house-to-house searches and clearing operations were underway.

Policemen from the 2nd battalion worked the perimeter of the Muhalla 711 while 1st Police Battalion officers patrolled and searched the mosque, and areas to the south. During this series of missions Coalition Soldiers watched from a distance, and were impressed with the level of professionalism shown during the clearing mission.
