Military Teacher Education Program

There are a variety of education programs available to active duty Servicemembers. One of the programs that assist Servicemembers is the program that helps former Servicemembers become teachers. It is called the Troops to Teachers program and it is a program that was created by the Department of Education and the US Department of Defense. It is a program that serves to recognize the prior service experience of Servicemembers, and find a method to place them into the classroom. This program works to benefit everyone involved, the Servicemember is able to find a job and quality employment, the service benefits by a higher degree of satisfaction on the part of Servicemembers regarding job placement, and the school districts involved gain a highly experienced person in the classroom.

Veterans who are coming off of active duty, reservists and even military retirees can participate in the program, anyone who has served in the military and who wish to begin new careers as private or public school teachers. The school districts help the teacher candidates move through the program while assisting them to develop their skills as classroom teachers. The overall experience is one that capitalizes on the experiences that the military Servicemember already has, while helping them develop the elements necessary for employment and eventual teacher certification. The Troops to Teachers program gives referrals, information, and financial help offering support to the individual. Many of the experiences that the Servicemember brings to the table gives the school district that employs them a rare opportunity for service from a trained cadre of personnel, already trained to deal with people and instilled with personal discipline and motivation.
