Air Force Military Police Officer Careers

Serving in the Air Force as a military Police officer is a challenging and rewarding career choice. You will be working in a modern field involving the latest in law enforcement and criminal detection methods, and dealing with a great number of different personnel in various military and civilian situations. The Air Force maintains its own police force to maintain order and security, and for criminal investigation. Air Force Military policemen are taught to protect the property and to patrol the areas that are occupied by the Air Force both on Air Force bases and off bases around the world.

Air Force MP’s work to enforce the law and to maintain order according to the UCMJ, the uniform code of military justice. They are often called to interact and cooperate with local and regional military and civilian law enforcement. They work to patrol against crime, and to enforce military law and traffic rules. They assist in responding to fire and criminal and other emergencies, as well as routine military police type situations. The job of Air Force Military policeman involved patrolling by vehicle, car, boat or even aircraft, and investigating, arresting and charging criminal suspects. You will work to provide traffic control and crowd control as well as operating security checkpoints and providing premise and entrance security. You will testify in court and various legal proceedings, and collect fibers, fingerprints and trace evidence.

You will attend 9 weeks of Air Force basic training where you will learn about Air Force enlisted methods. After boot camp you will attend 9-12 weeks of advanced training at a military training facility. You will learn investigative methods, methods of police procedure, and ways to perform military law enforcement. You will work to learn skill sets involved in firearm usage, crowd control, evidence collection and crime investigation. You will work with civilian personnel, and military personnel, and learn about the chain of evidence, both in civil, military and civilian custody. The Air Force will train you in the most advanced law enforcement methods available and allow you to transition to civilian law enforcement after the time in Air Force is over. You have training that will make you attractive and marketable in the civilian market in a variety of law enforcement career options.

    I’m only 15 years old and I have already made up my mind that I am joining the Air Force to hopefully become an MP and later a Police Officer. How do I go about doing this??

    talk to your local recruiter and he will tell you every thing you need to know thats what i did i am leaving in july or august this year. GET PUMPED

    Are Military Police Officers routinely deployed into hostile areas/bases? Or are they typically stationed at military bases withing the US?

    im 18 and i have already swore in and waiting to go to boot camp :) i was just reading this and im sure this is what i will be going into this is this fun? because i want to work hard but have fun too …

    Amandia, The military is what you make it……I’ve been in the United States Army for 7 years, and I’m looking at switching to the Airforce….The beginning is not fun at all….there will be a time at basic where you will have a “screw this” moment, but push through it, and you will be fine.
