British And American Forces Help Iraqi Forces
The efforts at transitioning the security of the nation of Iraq over to its security forces is becoming a reality. It has been a long slow process, but the number of Iraqi Security Forces is starting to draw near to being fully staffed, manned by a full complement of Iraqi National Police and Iraqi National Army members.
This is the first time since the Coalition involvement that there have been a substantial number of Iraqi security forces that have been successfully trained and vetted by Coalition Forces. Since the Fall of Saddam Hussein the efforts have been centered at recruiting and training various members of the Iraqi Security forces on how to provide their own security.
This effort has slowly and painstakenly been mounted by all the different member nations that make up the Coalition and these efforts have finally began to bear fruit. According to an official with the Coalition, the Iraqi Security Forces should approach full capacity near the beginning of 2009.
“Force generation has been the focus of most of our efforts up to now, but by the end of the year the Iraqi Security forces will be very close to being fully manned,†said Brigadier General Torrens Spence.
