Troops Give Supplies And Medical Support The Obeidi tribe has been in the region of Maderiyah for several generations, and they have always relied on each other through the good and the hard times of life. Now, they are getting aid from an unexpected place, Coalition Soldiers. Members of the 3rd Infantry, 2nd BCT, 9th Field Artillery, 1st Battalion have been working in the area dealing with counterinsurgency, and they have slowly began to identify areas that they can assist the local members of the Obeidi tribe, and at the same time build bridges of understanding and communication. Soldiers from the 9th Field Artillery, 1-9th FA, Battery B and first platoon first assisted a woman from the Obeidi tribe who was suffering from injuries and severe burns. She was injured during an attack on Coalition soldiers in early May from insurgency forces in the area who mounted a nighttime mortar raid. Reshi Hadey Afeiy is a Obeidi tribe woman who was quietly preparing the evening meal for her family when she was struck by debris flying from several mortar rounds that landed on and around her home. The shock and explosion caused the cooking fire and oil that Ms. Afeiy was using to explode, burning her with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her upper body. The coalition found her during one of their patrols, and is helping her get the needed medical attention she needs. She has received some surgery, but needs more assistance which the Coalition is working to make sure she receives.
