Coalition Aids Reconstruction Of Remote Village Water System
As the area continues to settle down in the town of Zahko, Iraq, the attention of both the Coalition and the Iraqi Security Forces begins to turn toward reconstruction. One of the main focuses is the infrastructure of water and other systems. Coalition Civil Affairs personnel of the region work to help the villagers with two different water projects. Water projects in Benivia and Howreski were recently completed and put into service.
There are a total of four different well projects involved in the two villages, and they have worked hard to complete the water projects that were began by the previous rotation of Coalition soldiers. These two villages fell prey to the efforts of Saddam Hussein to try and wipe out the Kurdish people, and as such their water projects were destroyed by Saddam’s troops. The recent rebuilding gives new hope and quality of life to the citizens in both villages.

There are now about 25 families living in Benivia, and more families are slowly coming back to the region as they discover that the wells and water projects have been restored. Local citizens from the region worked on the projects in both villages, and their efforts have made the rebuilding move much more swiftly.
The rebuilding of the water projects have encouraged different Kurdish families to come back to the area, and as the word spreads, more families will likely come back to the region.
