187th Infantry Works To Unite Owesat Area

Peace And Unification Created With Local Officials

In a first for the Iraqi government a call came in for medical care for the Al Betra region, and the government was able to respond themselves. This was the first time that the Iraqi government has been able to respond themselves, without the Coalition taking the lead. The coalition accompanied the Iraqi officials but hung back and let Iraqi Medical officials take the lead. The response was to Owesat and Al Betra about 25 kilometers to the south of Baghdad, and the Iraq Medical officials were well equipped in their response.

Members of the 3rd BCT, 101st Airborne Air Assault, 187th Infantry Regiment 3rd Battalion worked to provide support as the Gol Iraqi medical officials and Iraqi Doctors flew into the region to respond directly to the response for aid. The Iraqi Doctors were also there to discuss the future of medical government services to the region, which has long been ignored regarding medical provisions.

The two communities responded to sit along the west shore of the Euphrates River, and is under the Ameriyah-Falluijah Nahia and Anbar Province. The region despite being under their jurisdiction is over 30 km from the Nahia and almost 40 km from the Anbar province.

The tribal leaders and Iraqi Government officials are working together to solve the lack of medical services, and it is encouraging that the coalition is not the first responder to this region any longer.
