This has come after much speculation and disagreement from the Korean civilians, how have been protesting the move of the US military into the area. This is known to be a great advancement for the US military, who are also allies with the Korean militaries. The projected goal for the United States is to build stronger ties and military force in Southern Korea, which is expected to take place with this new military base.
The military base is expected to hold close to 43,000 troops, both Korean and American. The base will be built in the city of Pyeongtaek, and is expected to take close to a year to build. There is some speculation that is coming from both parties in regards to this new base being built, but there is an overall feeling of appreciation and upcoming camaraderie between the two forces that is expected to shine through the bureaucracy. The President of Korea also received a great amount of speculation and resistance from the Korean population, but the plans to advance forward have been in negotiations for some time. Even with the new military base being created in Korea, there will still be a substantial amount of troop withdraw in the area, all to take place by the end of the Bush administration, which expires at the end of 2008.
