The United States Army has a long proud tradition of Army enlisted bands. They are the ones that are responsible for performing and playing music at events, ceremonies and representing the Army at different musical performances around the world. There are a number of different sized groups and types of military bands serving in the United States Army, but they all are active duty band enlisted members in the Army. There are a few groups in the Reserves but the majority of the band members in the Army are serving on active duty full time.

Army enlisted Band members serve in playing music from jazz, to small ensembles, to ceremonial and typical marching band type military style music selections. Army Bands are found in every type and size imaginable, from a small group, to trios, to a number of larger marching band units. There are also a number of different Army Band orchestras that play more formal classical type music selections. They are all members of the Army Special Band Corps. The Enlisted Army Special Band member is an important part of the Army enlisted team, they
work to help keep morale high and promote the Army image and mission to civilians and to the public, as well as representing the Army in a variety of environments around the world. Some of the different types of Army Band units include the 3rd Infantry Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps, the U.S. Army Field Band or one of many other designated Army band groups. A person who joins the Enlisted Army Band Special Band Corps works to perform, learn and rehearse music as the main part of their duties when they are not actively performing or playing. Members work in jazz groups, orchestras, marching bands, combos, trios, and other size groups performing all different styles and kinds of music. They perform and play in concerts, dances, ceremonies, street parades, and many other types of ceremonies as directed or scheduled.

Part of serving in the Army as an Army Special Band member involves a number of auditions; you have to show that you know how to play an instrument and are a musician in order to qualify for the Army Special Band Corps. You will be required to transpose music by sight, and to assist and help train and perform with other members of the Army Special Band.
