Karkhk And Rusafa Districts Joined By Coalition And Iraqi Efforts
The recent link between Rusafa and Karkhk is nearly the tale of two cities. As the bridge between the two villages was opened recently, the region took a step closer to becoming a dual village prosperous area, when the rebuilt Sarfiyah Bridge was put back into commission.
The rebuilding was done entirely by the Iraqi Government, Iraqi Security forces, and Iraqi Contractors. The US Coalition and US Army Corps of Engineers had a very small role in assisting with architecture and design, and a small role in construction, but the lions share was done by the Iraqi Government and Iraqi Forces.
This is the first time that such a large project has been sought from start to finish and completed nearly entirely by Iraqi Efforts. Over 90 percent of the project resulted from Iraqi efforts and workmanship, the coalition only was present in a supportive role in this project.
“We did not have a direct major role in this project, it shows how far the Iraqi Government and Iraqi Forces have come in the rebuilding efforts of their country,†said Major Frank Garcia.

The economy as well as local citizens expect a large benefit from this project. The economy is expected to get a large shot in the arm, as well as the local citizens being able to travel easier and with more frequency between the two villages.
