Diyala Province Secured As Life Returns

Officials Declare Joint Iraqi And Coalitions Security Efforts A Success

The Diyala area is currently going through a very positive security growth, with the quality of life in the area getting back to normal for the first time in years. The safety and current success in security operations is due to the efforts by Coalition Soldiers who have trained and brought on line hundreds of Iraqi Army, Iraqi National Police and Iraqi Security forces.

Because of the training and professionalism that the Iraqi Army and security forces now have, they are working successfully to keep insurgents out and the criminal element has largely fled the area. This has been greeted with open arms by the citizens, who were tiring of the constant security issues that were affecting the quality of life.

“Operations led by the Iraqi Security Forces have provided a stable and more safe area, for the government as well as the local Diyala Citizens,” said Army Colonel Jon Lehr.

Colonel Lehr is the commander of the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat team, 2nd Infantry Division and has been serving in the area of Diyala for the last 14 months.

“The Diyala region overall has seen a reduction in violence of over 70 percent,” said Colonel Lehr.

The reduction in violence has occurred because of the hard work of joint Iraqi and Coalition Soldiers, as well as a series of 10 large-scale offensive security operations in the region.
