Medical Team Members Of Marine Wing Support Assist Locals
One of the best things that the coalition has done in building bridges with the Iraqi people has been their medical clinics and mobile screening medical operations. One such operation was launched recently by Marine Wing Support Battalion Squadrons 274 and 172, that visited the village of Yarimjah to help out with medical Treatment.
Villagers were the beneficiaries of a cooperative military medical engagement where the Navy corpsmen and medics attached to the Marine Wing Support examined villagers, and conducted a health screening. They noted the condition of the overall health in the village and took notes for the Iraqi Government. These types of screenings are invaluable to help the Iraqi Government know what types of health care needs their people are needing the most.
“The Marine Corps is often part of special task force involved in humanitarian efforts, so it is not a foreign or strange thing for us,†said Navy Lieutenant Commander Christina Williams, the Chief Medical Officer for the Support Squadron. Navy personnel provide coverage for their sister service, the Marine Corps who do not have their own medical doctors or corpsmen.

While treating and examining more than 40 different Iraqi villagers, the doctors and medical staff also taught villagers how to brush their teach, and gave instruction about clean water and proper hygiene.
