The Navy enlisted Podiatry specialist works to maintain and support Navy and military doctors in treating all different types of ailments that affect Navy personnel and their feet.
The Navy Podiatry specialist supports with issues dealing with the lower leg, foot and ankle, and is an important member of the Navy medical team in supporting mission response and overall military readiness. Working as a Navy enlisted assistant in Podiatry you will assist and observe medical professionals and Navy doctors in providing examinations and foot care services to anyone that requires help with foot and ankle issues. You will assist to diagnose ailments of the foot and ankle, and issues of the lower leg. You will work to address issues involving discomfort and pain, and help personnel with finding solutions to chronic pain and foot wound issues. You will help provide instruction and medical care for personnel who are wounded in the foot, dealing with dressings and wound healing, as well as helping with adaptive therapies as instructed by Navy Doctors. You may be called to assist in various surgeries, from routine minor surgeries involving nail removal to more intensive involved procedures involving a sterile field and other involved surgical procedures. You will be tasked to serve potentially at any location either afloat or ashore where the Navy maintains podiatry services around the world.
