New Community Pool Makes Large Splash
Sometimes the nicest things in life are the most simple. The Al Jadida community is able to experience some relief from sweltering summer temperatures with the three month project to renovate the Al Jadida Baghdad pool. The pool was finished and opened for the public on June 7th, after a period of 90 days of intensive remodeling. A mixture of local Iraqi government officials, citizens and members of the 10th Mountain Division, 4th BCT combat team supervised the grand opening event to ensure that it made a good successful splash.
The Sheikhs and local officials were very pleased with the ceremony, and everyone involved was appreciative of the efforts that the coalition put into making sure that the pool was ready and working well. The pool was one of four that was identified by the Coalition for renovation and the efforts in making sure it was complete went well. The renovation of the pool was completed with funds from the Coalition Commanders Emergency Relief Program. It provides funds to assist identified programs to for the local community

The main thrust of the CERP commanders fund programs is to help the Iraqi communities resume different projects that help life return to normal, and the restoration of different community based pools are one tangible sign of life doing just that. The effort also marks a main goal of the coalition and that is to look for ways to improve the overall quality of life for children in Iraq.
