Soldiers Deliver Texas School Supplies

Donated Supplies Distributed By Coalition Troops

Many times soldiers serve in Iraq without an effective method of helping the native citizens. But sometimes, there comes an opportunity to interact and really make a difference and often it is a situation that presents itself unexpectedly. One of the soldiers serving in the 230th Military Police Company of the Coalition was asked by his family what could be done to help the Iraqi people, and so the soldier asked the local Diyarah Iraqi leaders. After talking more with the local Iraqi leaders, the soldiers were told through interpreters that the students needed school supplies, pens, paper, pencils, and other types of supplies.

Some of the students have backpacks; some have one single piece of school supplies, a worn out spiral notebook, or a dog-eared folder. Some have a pencil, others have a pen, but none of the students had a compete set up with paper, pencil and backpack. So the soldiers sent word home to their families and the response from home was overwhelming. Family members back home in Texas responded in force, sending a large amount of school supplies immediately to the troops in Iraq for the local students.
