Iraqi Police College Construction Starts

Baghdad East Receives New Police Facility

There has been a great amount of new construction since the overall security has improved in and around Baghdad. One of the newest projects is a new Iraqi Police training facility. There was ground broken for 19 different buildings to train and house Iraqi police officers, and to train members of the Iraqi National Police. The new facility is being built with 35 million dollars of funding from the Iraqi Government, and will house space for 200 instructors and over 2,000 recruits.

The facility is being built on a former field used for polo. The new police facility will have a soccer field and a large parade ground for marching and drilling. “This is a huge leap forward for the Iraqi police,” said US Army Major General Michael Jones.

General Jones is the Director General for the Directorate of Interior Affairs and the Coalition liaison officer helping the new training facility.

The picture of operations for the new facility is one that is very hopeful, and everyone associated with the project has a great deal of enthusiasm for the project. As the school is built, it will also work to provide employment for the local citizens.
