Sayifiyah Feed Mill Boosted By Soldiers

Local Citizens Receive Aid For Operations

The local farmers in the Sayifiyah region are fortunate enough to have a newly reconditioned Feed Mill for their agricultural use. The mill was previously heavily damaged by battlefield conflicts and fighting, and could not be used at all. After the overall security began to settle down, the attention of the coalition turned to finding different projects that could be rebuilt and repaired.

The owner of the Feed mill was very grateful to receive the repairs, and the overall repair was affected using a grant from the embedded Provincial Reconstruction Team 7. The funds were provided by the U.S. State Department from a fund designed to assist in Iraq recovery. The process began with the grant, which in total amounted to $10,000 thousand dollars. The grant is in the form of a loan, which the owner of the Feed Mill will begin to pay back as soon as the mill is able to begin processing grain.

The restoration of the mill is seen as a huge success and a major element of the overall rehabilitation of the region, it will allow grain grown locally to be processed without having to ship it over longer distances.

The money to repay the MoA loan should be recouped within the first year to 18 months, and it is seen as an example of positive investment in the citizens of the region. Many of the grants are given freely without any expectation of repayment, so this incident is being touted as a very positive example of what can sometimes be possible.
