Apache Helicopter Crews Execute Missions

Tikrit Village Benefits From Improved Security

The Iraqi Security Forces have largely taken complete operations of Iraqi Security firmly in hand, but there are still a large number of missions in support that are being flown by the Coalition Aviation units. The Army in particular have units of Apache Helicopters and aviation units that provide crucial support to the military and civilian security of the region.

The AH-64 Apache Longbow pilots and crewmembers work as one unit to provide aerial reconnaissance and weapons support to the ground forces, both coalition and Iraqi units. The Longbow pilots and crews are known in slang as “Gunfighters,” and they are working to perform mission successfully.

Personnel from intelligence staff to operations are all involved in helping the Army aviation missions be successful. Pilots work diligently to establish mission plans, and they work closely with ground commanders to make aviation mission plans that work successfully.

Each different mission has a different profile, and as such they require planning and implementation. The coalition is mostly a support role, but on occasion they still mount an offensive effort at the request of the Iraqi security forces.
