Navy Information Technology Specialist

The field of information technology in the Navy is one of the more exciting technological jobs in the military. With the current world situations the need for ongoing information and Computer and Information Technology is likely to remain high. The Navy has some of the most highly trained and specialized state of the art training in the world, and they maintain the best and the latest in both training and equipment. The job specialty of Information Technology is one that Sailors and Airmen can work to become experts in the field. Candidates who apply for this job specialty should be intelligent and capable, and they will receive a variety of training to perform in the technology and Information Technology field.

The specialty of Information Technology is a premier position of responsibility that serves anywhere in the Navy that the Fleet is based. Trained Information Specialists is a rating that is more and more important in the Navy. Information technology specialists work to protect our nation, and work to help protect our allies as well. They are used to maintain force readiness and strength by compiling, analyzing, maintaining and processing a huge variety of highly complex and technological material. Sailors, Airmen and Navy personnel that work in this field work to provide links and communications between vessels at sea and at shore. As a part of the occupational Navy Specialty you will be called upon to; work with classified and highly technical material, to coordinate and operate different data links, circuits, technology systems and networks, and to operate global satellite assets and Navy communications systems. You will be taught theories and concepts of a variety of different Navy systems. Some of the different topics that you will study include; basic information and technology procedures, communications systems repair and troubleshooting, hardware and software computer repair, basic computer theory, and computer and advanced computer programming. As you rise in rank you will be responsible for gradually increasing different units of responsibility, as well as helping to train airmen and sailors that are inexperienced in the IT field.

Civilian jobs that you will qualify for after being trained in the Navy as an IT technology specialist involve a number of different computer and systems network IT systems repair. You will be valuable as a trained computer specialist.
