One of the gains of democracy in Iraq is that there are people that are elected to represent different citizens. Elected democracy is a new thing for many neighborhoods in Iraq, and the nice thing is that it is working well. Members of the Joint Rural Planning committee met for the first time in Bukkari Hall in the village of Tarmiyah.

The meeting was designed to bring various leaders from throughout the Tamiyah Qada together, and members of the Provincial Council along with a special visit of the governor of Baghdad, Hussein Al Tahan.

It was a successful meeting that provided a forum for different local leaders in the area to discuss specific issues and to get feedback from different groups in and around Baghdad.

“It appeared to be a successful meeting from the vantage point of citizens and from the coalition point of view,” said Major Todd Woodruff.

Major Woodruff is the MNF 25th Infantry, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 14th Infantry, 1st Battalion executive officer and a spokesperson for the Coalition in regards to the meeting.

The officials worked to discuss many different improvements to the agriculture, education and healthcare system. The coalition was pleased to provide support for the event and security for the overall operations.
