The Army Artillery Field Meteorologist is a member of the Army Field Artillery team. You will be responsible to judge weather conditions, and work as an active member of the team. You will be responsible to judge the overall conditions of weather and to advise the commander or unit leader of how weather will likely affect the field artillery mission. You will judge how the weather will affect the Artillery field mission, and how it will affect the firing of various other field artillery weapons. Different weapons react differently in various weather situations, and you will be responsible to provide input on how to adjust weapons, field artillery, and missiles that are dealt with by the Field Artillery. As an Army Meteorological Artillery Crewmember you may be detailed to provide support and preparedness for the various Army Artillery Operations.
You may be involved in providing generators for Army Field Artillery Operations, taking temperature and air density readings, and other humidity and condition readings that will affect the ballistics of Field artillery operations. You will work as an active member of the Army Field Artillery but you will remain with your focus on weather and how it affects the Field Artillery overall operations. The work of a member of the Army Field Artillery crew member will include setup of the mobile field artillery weapons, assistance and support for all Army Field Artillery Operations, and dismantling and re assembly of all launch and mobile Field Artillery weapons and missile systems. You will stand duty at various maintenance and operations centers, and be on alert periodically to maintain high mission and operational readiness. Field Artillery Servicemembers have to have high stamina, as they often work without relief for extended periods of time. They are also required to have normal color vision.
You will attend Army basic training for 9 weeks and then advance to specialized training. You will attend 7 to 9 weeks of advanced individual training as a Field Artillery Meteorologist. You will participate in simulated real world combat training and classroom training. You will work in combat training evolutions, as well as dealing with units in the field. You will work to learn missile system, rocket and gun emplacement training, as well as enemy targets. You will work in ammunition handling and working with all different types of weapons.
