Baghdad Water Healthy Again

Joint Iraqi And Coalition Efforts Yield Success

The water situation in Baghdad has been less than stellar at times, the problem has been getting and maintaining a clean source of fresh water and having it be potable, and able to be drank. The coalition has worked very hard to make this a main goal since the overall security situation has improved, and this has been evident with the success of getting another water purification center completed in Sekreechet.

The Army of Iraq has worked very diligently to provide security for the water efforts, and it has been successful in showing that they can maintain the level of safety for new projects as well as ensuring the safety of different neighborhoods.

Highway 8 runs alongside a lot of the different pipelines that carry fresh water from the Sekreechet complex, and it is one of the most heavily secured roads in the region. In addition to being well guarded, the water overall production has increased, making everyone excited and pleased.

The new water purification system at the East Sekreechet location treats and filters a lot of water, and it is a very well welcomed source of drinking water. It produces about 1,000 liters of water per hour and joins a couple of dozen other facilities that are nearby that also work to produce drinking quality water.

Many of the water treatment plants in Baghdad existed before the coalition came in and before the surge, but they had fallen into disrepair during Saddam’s Reign.
