2nd BCT Detachment Prepares Trip Home

Security Battalion Completes Final Mission

Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd BCT worked to prepare themselves for their last mission before heading for home. Some of the soldiers were eating breakfast at their post, leaning on the hood of their vehicles; others were simply waiting for the last mission.

The troops began to prepare to head into Mahmudiyah, and their overall attitude was enthusiastic and upbeat. As they donned their armor, perhaps for the last time, the soldiers chatted about different missions in the last few days. This was the same routine in getting prepared for missions that they had been doing for over a year, but this time it was the last one.

The 2nd BCT has performed over 200 missions and covered nearly 14 thousand miles over the last 13 months. The primary mission was to provide transportation and security for soldiers and civilians and keeping the region safe.

While many people had made fun of the 2nd BCT as a sort of Combat Taxi, their role has been very important and overall has been a prime factor in the success of the mission in the entire Kalsu region.

The last mission of the 2nd BCT was to provide escort service for members of the Baghdad ePRT but it was one that they did with all smiles.

Because their next mission is to return home after a “Job well done.”
