Voucher Navy Education Program

The Navy has begun to realize in the last several decades the importance of education. As technology has worked its way into the Navy from bottom to top, the need for a highly educated and trained Navy population has became evident. In times past the college educated was scoffed at, and it was seen as something for the young college age navy recruits. It was not taken seriously by older soldiers or veterans of the line. There was not a lot of effort that was placed into educational pursuits or in obtaining training or advanced education for senior enlisted personnel.

Slowly over time this has all changed. The overall importance of education has grown in the Navy, and it has began to be supported in a large fashion by the Navy. The older more experienced Navy veterans have been slow to accept the change to a more supportive educational Navy, but over time it is has transitioned into a more technological and educationally supportive service. The Navy Advanced Education Voucher program, or AEV program is a brand new program that supports education for senior enlisted personnel. It is a program for enlisted ranks E-7 to E-9, or Chief Petty Officer to Master Chief Petty Officer. The Navy has grown to support education in a number of different elements, and the AEV program is only the latest of several new innovative programs. The participants in the AEV program are required to seek a Bachelors or Masters degree. To qualify for the program a senior enlisted person must be seeking a degree that is “Navy Relevant” and a program that can help the Navy in some way or fashion. Applicants for the AEV program should have advancement potential, and have at least 18, 20, 0r 24 years of service for E-7, E-8 and E-9 respectively. The potential Navy AEV applicant should be transitioning to shore duty or a shore based assignment to give the AEV applicant the time on shore to successfully complete a degree program. Any senior enlisted personnel that want to apply for the AEV program should have their endorsement and support of their Commanding Officer.
