Terrorists Detained And Iraqi Army Supported
Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade 6th Iraqi Army Division are working closely to patrol the area around Baghdad. They are acting as the leader in the effort to create a secure area around Baghdad, and they are supported by the 10th Mountain Division Marine Corps Soldiers.
The joint patrols worked together in the early morning hours to seize a large number of weapons in the Owesat village. The soldiers air assaulted together into Owesat by helicopter, and they then surprised the different groups of terrorists before they could even mount a defense.
The soldiers were led this time by the Iraqi Army Soldiers. This was one of the first times that the Iraqi soldiers have taken the lead in this type of operation, as in the past it was the coalition soldiers that provided the lead.
More than 25 different terrorist suspects were taken into custody in the pre dawn raid, and the weapons seized were part of a large weapons cache found in one house.
The weapons were over 200 – 155mm artillery rounds, a rocket propelled grenade launcher, and 23 RPG rounds. In addition 17 hand grenades and four rolls of detonation cord were found.
