Operation Restore Peace Reconciles Iraqis

Coalition And Iraqi Government Succeed In Rehabilitation Efforts

The Government of Iraq has a number of different goals; one of the primary ones is to work to bring back into the community different members of the nation of Iraq that have gone the wrong direction in life.

Some people have gotten involved in insurgency; others have been guilty of criminal offenses. No matter what different people have been involved in, the Iraqi Government has had as a goal the concept of bringing people in from the cold.

Because of their past affiliation or crimes, different members of the Iraqi population have been in jail, or detained in confinement facilities since the beginning of the War on Terror. These people are guilty of different types of crimes and actions, but many of them are eligible to be rehabilitated.

The Government of Iraq is working to give these people an opportunity to reconcile with their nation, and with their community. The attitude of the coalition is “Reconcile or deal with the coalition later on the battlefield.”

Right now former fighters that have quietly given up their arms and stopped fighting, but who are known to be past insurgents or fighters are being targeted as people to help reconcile their differences with the Iraqi Government.

Twenty-four former fighters showed up and are working through the process of reconciliation with assistance from the Iraqi Government. It’s a process of six steps or phases that are completed under close supervision and with cooperation from both Iraqi and Coalition security forces.
