There are a lot of very good benefits for military Servicemembers in the United States Military, and one that is excellent for supporting members during difficult times. Servicemembers are involved in dangerous and hazardous missions as a matter of course everyday. They work hard to defend their country against enemy soldiers and soldiers that stand against the United States. Sometimes the Servicemembers and their families have people that are left behind or injured, even killed during active duty. There is a program that is made to help them and to give support and aid to the families who have experienced a personal loss. It gives comfort, aid and support to the families of these brave Servicemembers. The Tragedy Assistance Program, or TAPS military survivor program is a program that was created to give aid to the survivors in military families that have experienced a loss. One of the wives of a Servicemember who was killed in the line of duty decided that there needed to be something more. Bonnie Carroll founded the TAPS program in the year 1994 after she had experienced her own military tragedy. Bonnie Carrol was married to United States Army Brigadier General Tom Carroll who died in the tragic aircraft accident in 1992 in Alaska. The support and assistance that Mrs. Carroll received from different people including peers, friends and family was wonderful, but she also received support and concern from families of other Servicemembers that had lost family in the same manner. Because of this Bonnie Carroll was moved to create a program to duplicate and encourage the kind of positive support, aid and encouragement that she was blessed to receive from other Servicemember Survivors. There are several programs that have sprung out of the original TAPS program. Survivor Link Program- This is a program for individual and group support of families who have lost a Servicemember. It sponsors a four day National Event in the area of the nations capital, in Washington D.C. Find the Military Career right for YOU ! Click here for more Information. Peer Mentor Program- This is a part of the TAPS program that gives one on one support, assistance with service location, and referral. It gives free care and support services and focuses on helping Servicemember families get connected to necessary services that they can utilize. The services are all aimed at helping give needed support, and includes services, support and in some cases goods that are donated to help out.
