Army Field Artillery Missile Careers

Working in the Army as an Artillery Field Missile specialist will involve working with a number of different missile systems and large bore ammunition. You will work with the missile station launching systems, as well at the Patriot Missile battery. The operator enhanced missile battery system involves training to be the person who actually fires the missile and Patriot missile battery system. The missile system and Patriot Battery weapons systems are designed to launch and fire technologically advanced targets and multiple weapons at the same time. Battery missile launchers are mobile and can be moved to any location that the Army field artillery selects to use as a mobile position. Operating the Patriot missile station is a challenging job. Positions include the Patriot Operator, the control station, and up to eight different separate Patriot launch stations. The Army Field Artillery Patriot system operator works to control directly the launching of the different Patriot missile launching stations. Working as a Patriot missile enhanced crewmember will allow a person to direct the launch of between one and eight different patriot missiles, to up to eight targets. To serve as a Patriot or Army Field Artillery Missile operator you have to be in excellent physical condition and be a person that has normal sight and hearing. You need to not be color blind in any way as the ammunition, charts and other firing information is all color coded. You must be able to maintain in one place for long periods of time without a rest, and deal with stress without losing your cool. Training for a Patriot Missile operator or Army Field Artillery specialist involves attending 9 weeks of basic combat training, where you will learn the basics of enlistment in the Army. After boot camp you will progress to an 11 week individual advanced training school, which will give you training in various types of simulated conditions. You will learn in the classroom as well at simulated battlefield conditions to learn how to operate gun, missile, and rocket launching systems, and receive training in strategy and artillery strategy.
