Michigan National Guard Aids Rebuilding

MRAP Vehicles Used To Patrol Ramadi Area

The new vehicles that are being sent to Iraq have helped cut down on the number of mine related deaths and casualties in the region. The new vehicles are called Mine Resistant Ambush protected, and they have a specially designed V shaped hull to direct any explosive blasts up and away from the vehicle if an explosive is detonated outside the vehicle.

Members of the Michigan National Guard are proudly serving in the Camp Ramadi area, working to provide security and escort detail support to both official travel and military convoys as they travel in the region. What might have been a hair-raising trip a year or two ago is now fairly routine, with the security and safety of the region firmly under provincial Iraqi Security Forces Control.

Members of the 125th Infantry, 1st Battalion, Company B of the Michigan National Guard are working in support of Task Force Viking, to make sure that different trips in and around Ramadi go off without a hitch each week.

The trip support missions run six days a week with one day set aside for equipment maintenance and down time, and soldier recuperation.

The soldiers work to stay vigilant despite the reduced threat of violence, and their efforts to guard the different trips and convoys around the Ramadi region have been very successful.
