Iraqi And British Soldiers Work Together
The soldiers that work together on the various security projects have worked shoulder to shoulder for over a year now. Members of the Coalition and members of the Iraqi National Army, and the Iraqi National police have been successful in learning to work together to achieve security goals.
Recently the soldiers that make up the joint forces in the Basra region were shoulder to shoulder in a different endeavor. Members of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guard and members of Scotland Royal Regiment Battalion 4 challenged the Iraqi soldiers to a friendly game of soccer, played in Basra on June 26th.
The soldier’s work sweating in vehicles and on foot patrol, working alongside their Iraqi peers and fellow soldiers. Their efforts during the soccer game served to release some stress for all the players, as well as engaging in some friendly rivalry.
The soccer team made up of the Iraqi Soldiers won, 3 goals to none. The winning Iraqi team was awarded a trophy and won bragging rights for the next several months.
The players from both teams were treated to a hearty barbecue lunch where the Iraqi and British Officers from both teams served the players.

This event gave both sets of soldiers, British and Iraqi players a chance to get a break from the daily patrols and different checkpoint operations, as well as growing together through the friendly sports competition.
