One of the different jobs that you can progress to is the position of Senior Enlisted Chief Medical Officer. This is not a commissioned officer position, but a Senior NCO rating that is the most senior among enlisted medical personnel at a specific duty post. The Chief NCO Medical office works to perform a number of duties and functions as the senior enlisted advisor to the Commissioned Officers and Commanders at the duty post they are assigned.
It is a position that acts as a senior advisor to Department Chiefs, staff agencies, Directors and Commanders of medical and dental Army Facilities. It is an advice and supervision role, and a person serving as a Chief Medical NCO officer is the person who overseas a number of enlisted soldiers working at a specific medical facility. The Army Chief NCO Medical Officer serves at medical, dental, multi purpose facilities, and other units in related medical type units. Chief medical NCO serve on the home front, and overseas. This is a supervisory enlisted NCO position and they provide different liaison and communications work between superior officers and enlisted personnel at the medical unit operations level. They are responsible to oversea and supervise personnel at the unit level where many unit operation missions come together. Serving as a medical NCO liaison officer is a position that is vital in promoting technical and unit training, operations and tactical preparations, and assisting in medical unit organization. Part of your job may involve assisting to prepare orders for junior enlisted personnel. You will act as a Senior Enlisted liaison between medical staff and soldiers, and work to promote medical unit cohesion. You will complete boot camp, and a number of different medical support assignments as you rise in rank and experience. This is not an entry-level career. You have to first complete both the Advanced and the beginning levels of NCO training and be able to successfully graduate from both academies successfully.

Most senior Medical NCO enlisted officers will be between 12 and 17 years of service in the Army. You will be required to at some time enroll and complete the First Sergeant course and other types of Army administrative training.
