Iraqi Security Successful In Killing And Capturing Terrorists
Over the last ten days there have been a huge increase in positive missions performed by the Iraqi Security Forces. Iraqi Security has been working to mount different missions, and while the coalition is still there, they are mainly in support operations and as advisors.
This is a relief for many members of the coalition who have been anxious about the ultimate success of the Iraqi Security Forces. By the success and the ability of the Iraqi Security Forces to mount missions on their own, from the planning to the implementation, the Iraqi Security Forces have been able to demonstrate a level of proficiency that is very gratifying.
Soldiers from the 64th Armor Regiment, 1st BCT, 4th Infantry Division recently provided logistics support and security for a series of search missions that were taken on by the ISF forces. The missions were devised, planned and implemented by members of the Iraqi Army and National Police forces.
The troops started early, at 330am before dawn and went into the community, going house-to-house searching where they had positive information about possible insurgents and terrorists that were hiding.
The search went well, and there were a number of brief firefights, but in each case superior numbers overpowered the insurgents. Nearly 10 insurgents were killed in the mission, and 5 suspected terrorists were captured and held for questioning.
This has been a fantastic example of the professionalism and the success that the Iraqi Security forces have developed. It also gives the coalition encouragement for the time when they withdraw and leave Iraq to the Iraq Security Forces.
