Helicopter Enlisted Flight Apprentice

The United States Air Force maintains a flight and aviation support specialty. The Air Force Enlisted flight apprentice works on helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, works to provide support for the aircraft and crew that they are assigned to. The Apprentice works as on of the main personnel of the Air Force helicopter Crew, performing pre flight, post flight, and in flight inspections. The Helicopter enlisted flight apprentice works to compute and compile different flight related information, and record it for later examination and review. You will work as an active flight crewmember, keeping in touch with the pilot, and assisting the pilot, flight engineer, and assisting in different flight operations. You will stay on alert, serving to monitor systems and flight indicators, as well as monitoring various helicopter systems and alarms for fire, depressurization, overheating and other system and abnormal type conditions. You will be responsible for keeping in constant communications with the pilot, and assisting the Pilot in various duties. After Basic Training you will attend Technical school, where you will be trained in how to operate as a Helicopter Flight Engineer. Basic knowledge of flight, along with electrical and mechanical theories, as well as specific skills and training on state of the Art Air Force systems will be taught to you. You will learn to perform in flight maintenance and what to do in emergency conditions. A variety of aircraft procedures will be shown and taught to you, and you will learn to use and interpret schematics, diagrams, and performance charts. Prior knowledge in the industrial arts is one way that you can prepare, as well as any aptitude you may have in working with engines or electrical systems. During technical school you will spend time both in the classroom as well as in the field, learning about hydraulic, mechanical and even pneumatic systems, and their operation.
