Iraq Program Gains International Attention
There are a number of different educational programs that are being conducted in Iraq, and many of them have served the nation well. As the nation works to heal the process of education has become an important issue, and one that is working to define the youth of tomorrow.
The region around Hawijah Iraq has been the beneficiary of a brand new program, one that combines literacy and education for the local citizens. Many of the students are adults, and they are eager to be able to utilize the ability to read and write, as well as learning other basics in learning and student education.
The project is a literacy project that has gained national and international attention. It is now teaching nearly 500 members of the community, many of them are Sons of Iraq members eager to learn and then work in their community.
Part of the effort to rebuild the nation requires that members of the community be able to perform, and part of this means they need to be able to read and write, and communicate in written form. This has been a challenge up to now, with adults wanting to know how to read and write but there was no program or method in place that would teach them.
By their own government estimate, nearly 5.6 million adults in Iraq are illiterate, and it is the efforts of programs such as the Hawijah Literacy pilot program that will help make the difference in the future.
