Citizens Turn In Munitions To Coalition

MNF Forces Accept Weapons From Local Community Members

Local citizens have begun to become more vested in assisting different members of the Iraq security forces, and the Sons of Iraq. They are bringing to the coalition and to the Iraqi Army and National police more weapons, and leading troops to hidden caches of weapons more and more.

Weapons and munitions are only a small part of it. Because of the cooperation from the citizens the number of different insurgents and Al Qaeda members that have been able to operate inside the Qada has dropped significantly. The people have begun to see the entire village and region as their land, and to act in concert with the security forces to help maintain and insure the peace.

The Iraqi Security Forces are taking the lead, and they have been the members to whom the citizens have brought the munitions to over the last several weeks. Large numbers of explosives, as well as a number of different types of rocket propelled grenades, and large amounts of roadside munitions have been turned in.

Members of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th infantry, also have taken possession of a number of different weapons that were normally given to the different members of the Sons of Iraq, or to the Iraqi Security Forces.
