Two parts of the Montgomery GI bill are the Top up, and Buy up programs. Both involve adding additional funds while on active duty to your MGIB account, they allow the Servicemember to maximize their educational funds that they receive later, after they are done serving on active duty. In the Buy up Program you add $600 dollars to your MGIB program, which allows you to get back up to an additional $5,400 dollars in educational funds later.

Credit for Service- You apply to have the different work and job experience that you have performed while serving on Active Military service evaluated. It is examined and then you are given college level credit for any training that entitles you to credit for training received. It is an advantageous program for those that are serving in a vocational or critical area that work in that could give them college credit for their service.
