33rd Iraqi Army Turns Over Seized Explosive Cache To Coalition
Acting on a citizen tip, the 33rd Iraqi Army went to a farmhouse, and discovered over 4,000 pounds of homemade explosives. The explosive was made from fertilizer and diesel fuel from a farm near Karbala on July 22nd.
The farmhouse was abandoned, but the Iraq Security Forces have several leads that have resulted in a number of arrests of suspected insurgents. In addition, four men were detained and escorted to the Kartala Police directorate for direct and extended conditioning.
There have been a noted lack of insurgent activity near Karbala in the last year, because of the efforts that the joint patrols have accomplished in the region. The ability of the Iraqi Army continues to grow as they gain confidence in being able to interact with the citizens, and the real level of trust that the community has in the Iraqi Police and Iraqi National Army continues to grow.
As the Iraqi Security forces grow stronger, they are able to work more easily in the community due to having more established relationships with members of the community.

The training and supervision that the ISF forces need gets less and less as time goes by, and they come closer to the permanent ability to provide security and patrol functions on their own, without the coalition. This is an encouragement for members of the coalition.
