When you decide to enlist in the United States Marine Corps, there are a couple of different places that you may attend Basic Training in the United States. You can attend Parris Island Facility in South Carolina if you live in the East, or you may attend Marine Corps basic training in San Diego, California if you live in the West. If you are a female and you want to enlist in the Marine Corps, then you will attend basic training in South Carolina. But no matter which site you attend the military indoctrination and training received is the same at both facilities.
United States Marine Corp Basic Combat Training is considered the most challenging in the United States Armed Forces. You are challenged both mentally and physically. You receive not only military indoctrination, but a high level of memorization and education is required of you. It is not for the faint of heart, expect to be tested and challenged. There are some things that will be required of you and if you cannot do them at the start, then you should think about being able to do them before you join the Marines. Are you able to run between 3 and 4 miles at a reasonable pace? You should be able to run 3 miles in 28 minutes, and if you can do better than that then that is even better. Many people who were in the Marines talk about their experience Boot Camp as the hardest thing that they had ever done up to that point. Drilling is expected and part of the experience from the first day. You are required to learn the ratings, ranks and levels that are in the Marine Corps. You will learn to march, and march a lot. There are a lot of different things you will learn, the US Marine Core Values, The Marine Corps Rifle Creed, The M16 characteristics, and many other things. There also is a code of conduct you will be expected to memorize.

Don’t bring anything except important papers, your clothes, a blank voided check (for pay-direct deposit) any prescription medications you need will be provided by the Marines at Recruit Center and approved by a Marine Corps Doctor. Joining the United States Marine Corps is not for everyone. Once you are a Marine, you are always a Marine. There are no ex-Marines.
