Criminal Investigator USCG Careers

The United States Coast Guard Criminal Investigator is a job specialty that is a reserve billet. It is a job that is very important, the USCG Investigator IV is the person that works to investigate crime, and solve different criminal investigations that present themselves in the USCG. It is a specialized job, one that is designed for the civilian law enforcement officer that wishes to serve in the Coast Guard Reserve. It is strictly reserved for certified civilian law enforcement personnel with at least three years of service. Because it is necessary to be experienced in law enforcement, the Coast Guard designed this job specialty as a strictly reservist position, which was a wise decision and one that has aided and benefited the military as well as the individual investigator serving in this position. Serving in the Coast Guard Reserve as a Criminal Investigator is a specialist job position, it was designed in such a way that the Coast Guard capitalizes on the civilian police experience of their Criminal Investigator Reserve personnel and their civilian training. As a Criminal Investigator IV, you will provide investigative support to Coast Guard intelligence and Law enforcement missions. While it is a Reserve billet, it is a very important one because they serve the entire Coast Guard Active duty service as a whole, in a unique and symbiotic type of relationship. You will work to analyze and collect large amounts of information, including performing homeland security type criminal background checks, and providing and sharing both classified and unclassified intelligence information with the Homeland Security Department. As a member of the Coast Guard, you will be a licensed and authorized Homeland Security Criminal Investigator, authorized to perform a wide variety of different investigations and inquiries on behalf of the Coast Guard, homeland security, and the United States in general. Working as a Criminal Investigator is a little different, you will be a reservist but you may be tasked at times for extended TAD, serving on active duty for extended periods as tasked. You will work closely with other federal agencies, such as Navy NCIS, and Army CID investigators, sharing information and helping to solve different investigations for the United States military and Federal Homeland Security.
