Medical Community Improve Facilities
One of the many reasons that the overall level of health care in the Baghdad region has continued to improve is because of the commitment that both the Iraqi police forces have and the coalition. There used to be a thriving cardiac hospital in Baghdad called the Ibn At Bitar Hospital. It served patients from throughout Iraq, and it had staff that were world trained at centers of excellence around the world.
But during the early months of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the members of different Taliban and Al Qaeda used hospitals as shelters, and fire fight centers. Because of this, the hospital and other centers were heavily damaged and no longer able to be used.
The US Army corps of engineers have worked hard to build and rebuild several of the hospitals, including the Ibn At Bitar facility. Slowly, different levels of debris and damage were successfully cleared away, and then true reconstruction could begin.
The members of the Gulf Region Division, US Army Corps of Engineers has spent the last several months working with Iraq and local workmen, and their work cooperatively has paid off.
The hospital now has a new functional modern critical care unit, and reconstruction of the two story building began in November 2007.

The Cost of the rebuilding has been surprisingly modest for the size of the rebuild, all total the cost for rebuilding has been about $400,000 dollars. The rebuilt facility has 16 residential apartments that are on the hospital grounds, which gives the flexibility to the staff to assist members of the community.
