The Air Force maintains a cadre of specialists that deal with working on the wheeled vehicles that are used in the Air Force arsenal. As a technician in the Air Force you will work on a variety of vehicle bodies, including light trucks, buses and automobiles. This is rewarding work, and you will be trained in different procedures and methods of maintaining and upkeep of all the different vehicles that the Air Force has. You will work on the repair of body panels, windows, radiators, fenders and other vehicle body parts. As an Air Force Vehicle maintainer you will be responsible for many different types of repair, both in bodywork, chassis and other repair issues.
This is a program that provides expert training for working on vehicles maintained in the Air Force motor pool. You will deal with light wheel vehicles, cars, trucks, and a variety of other vehicles used both in the Air Force active duty services, as well as Reserve and Air Force Guard Service. You will attend technical training at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, in Maryland. You can get college and apprenticeship credit in this job field while on active duty, and while performing your duty in the Air Force. If you have any experience in vehicle repair, or the industrial arts, then this may be an ideal job specialty for you. You will work to deal with many types of repairs, with an emphasis on body vehicle construction, framework, and body panel theory.
There are a number of apprenticeship and career opportunities that are available to those serving in the specialty, as well as available college credit through the Air Force Community College. You will learn to use a variety of tools to braise, weld and change the shape of vehicles that are damaged in a variety of crashes, or various battlefield conditions. You will work with many different types of equipment as well as a variety of other tools to work on Air Force vehicle bodywork and repair. You will learn to prime, surface prep, and ready a project for painting, and the different methods to painting and restoration of body items.

Upon completion of training you will be assigned to a larger initial duty station where you can continue your training and apprenticeship with older and more experienced Air Force professionals in your field.
