Eastern Diyala Transferred To Iraqi Security

Security Responsibility Given To Iraqi Forces

The Iraqi Army, Iraqi Police, and local residents are all rejoicing as another stepping-stone has been realized to ultimate Iraqi self-rule. The area in the east of Diyala has joined the rest of Diyala in being handed over to the Iraqi Security Forces.

As the Iraqi Security Forces have proven themselves able to handle the region, they have been handed the keys to security operations, along with the responsibility that goes with it. Iraqi Security has been taken under the wing of the coalition for the last 18 months, and members have been trained in a variety of security, police and other operations.

Because of this, eastern Diyala and Diyala itself have been transferred to Iraqi Government and Iraqi Security forces control. They now have the job of making sure not only that the citizens are kept safe, but that insurgency and terrorists do not again find a stronghold in the Diyala region.

In the past it was a hotbed of insurgent activity, but then it was slowly reclaimed, and the community has worked to cooperate with the Iraqi Security forces.
