Iraqi Police Create Sunni Rule Of Law

Former Triangle Of Death Region Converted To Peaceful Area

Many people that live in Iraq can attest to the former conditions that were found between Mahmudiyah, Yusufiyah, and Iskandariyah. It was known at the time, about two years ago as the “Iraq Triangle of Death,” and it was an area of high terrorist activity and general lawlessness.

Now, the area formally known at the Triangle of Death has been quelled, and the Iraqi Security forces have been successful in creating an area that has the rule of law. The coalition worked to train the members of the Iraqi Security forces, and have maintained a support force in the Area, but the current success is due to the hard work from the ISF.

The troop surge from the Coalition in 2007 began the first changes. As the members of the terrorist cells and insurgency were chased out of the region, killed or arrested, then the members of the local communities slowly began to gain trust in their own security forces.

The coalition led the way, teaching individual members of the ISF how to interact with their communities, and how to deal with members of the community in positive ways. The citizens were slow to trust, but slowly they learned, and began to have faith again.

As time has passed, the members of the community have been able to have pride in their forces, and this has led to increased confidence by the members of the ISF itself.
