Elementary School Baghdad Reopens

Harat Elementary School Rebuilt And Refurbished

One of the main joys that the coalition has that they are able to participate in is the reconstruction and rebuilding of different schools for the children of Iraq. The Harat Elementary School in the Rashid district of Baghdad opened July 31st after undergoing two months of reconstruction.

More than 1,000 Iraqi girls and boys that are age 7 to 12 years old are able to use the school again, it was one of the main schools before it was damaged. The school was extensively damaged in fighting in the last 18 months, and abandoned about six months ago because it was too badly damaged to be used.

In addition to the repairs, there was some extensive different improvements that were built in to the school during the rebuilding. The school now has air conditioners, and was painted both interior and exterior. New doors were added, new chalkboards and school supplies were also added.

There were also generators added so that the school now has a back up system in case of loss of electrical power. The school has new doors, new trim, and a lot of different materials that make it look like a new school, rather than a rebuilt version of a former school.
