Iraqi Security Forces Build Relationships

ISF And Iraqi Citizens Forge New Friendships Together

When the surge first started a year ago, many of the citizens and the Coalition troops did not have much in the way of an established relationship. It has been a situation where trust was not yet earned, and at first the Iraqi people simply didn’t trust the coalition.

Now, the Coalition Forces have gained the trust of the locals, and slowly the locals have grown to trust their own Iraqi Security Forces.

Recently both the Coalition and the Iraqi Security Forces mounted an operation Half Nelson to continue to build trust with members of the Iraqi civilian forces, and to eliminate terrorists operating in Humiyah and the Baghdad region.

The cooperative efforts of both Coalition Forces and the Iraqi Soldiers worked hand in hand to conduct a friendly search. The visited with members of the community, and went on a “knock and search” mission.

This involved going house to house and meeting with members of the community, and while they were not concerned with finding members of the insurgency, it signaled to Al Qaeda and others that periodic, random searches of the community are a part of continuing security, and that it would be part of ongoing life.
